Ernest Walker | Available Planning, Coding & Healthcare Talent
Meet Ernest Walker. He just completed a Tech Talent South course and is ready for the next big thing. With a background in healthcare and a portfolio full of tech projects, he's a planning pro and itching to work with a startup. Check him out!
What class are you currently taking at Tech Talent South?
I just completed the TTS Full-time Code Immersion course here in Atlanta. I’ve learned a lot about Ruby and Rails, HTML and CSS, how APIs work, and some JavaScript and AJAX.
What past tech projects have you worked on?
I’ve worked on several projects with tech components, but I’ve always been on the business side working on things like requirements gathering, design validation, UI, and testing. My background is healthcare so the tech I’ve come in contact with includes things like patient/member portals, identification and stratification algorithms for condition management, and data transfers.
What are your best technical or creative skills?
Are organization and planning tech skills? I’d say yes, and not just because I’m a pro in those areas. Also, I have a knack for teasing out the end-to-end longitudinal aspects of things. I like putting puzzles together, and think that’s what drew me to explore coding.
What’s next on your list to learn?
In the immediate, I plan to learn more about what I just learned. What I mean to say is TTS provided me with a ton of information, and excellent instruction on such, but to know a thing requires more than just taking one class, however intensive it is. I’ve got a list of Treehouse, Codecademy, and Udemy courses I’m working though.
Interested in startups?
Absolutely! I’ve done tons of cross-functional product, program, and organizational development work anywhere from smaller business and nonprofits to large corporations and government. I think I have something real to offer; and on the flipside, I cannot wait to see what startups have to teach me.
What’s your ideal internship/job?
I’m looking for a work and learn situation. Like I said previously, I’ve got a lot to offer, but I want to spend dedicated time learning more too, whether it is about coding or a new industry or a new way to do things. Learning keeps things fresh and is a huge motivator for me.
When are you available to start?
Ready when you are!
