Prophytes App Builds on Deep Fraternity Networks
The Phi Beta Kappa Society, the first fraternal organization in the United States, was founded on December 5, 1776, at William & Mary. Since its inception, 17 U.S. Presidents, 38 U.S. Supreme Court Justices, and 136 Nobel Laureates have been inducted as members. Today, ask anyone who chose to go Greek and they’ll tell you that arguably the biggest selling point is the long-lasting network. As the Chicago Tribune put it, “A fraternity is not a four-year college experience, like a school club; it's a lifetime involvement.” ATL-based new media company, Electric Republic, has added a bit of tech to the centuries-old tradition by developing Prophytes; a platform that allows users to network, connect, and locate all members of greek-letter organizations.
Founded by Jacob York, “While numerous social networks provide a way to seek out connections and aim to serve everything to everyone, Prophytes is singularly focused on providing a direct line into the strong, deep and valuable networks of Greek fraternities and sororities,” explains York. “All of this is accomplished without complex search filters, inconsistent naming conventions and other distractions that make it hard to simply find the Greeks you’re looking for. Whether you’re new to town and want to fill in your social circle, on a business trip and looking for professional contacts, or you just want to see what other Greeks are up to, Prophytes makes it happen.”

“Eric York, VP of Development for Electric Republic and member of Kappa Alpha Psi, wanted to create a trusted database where his fellow Greeks could go and connect exclusively,” recalls Jacob. “He created the app 2 years ago and went through all of the growing pains that app development presents. Prophytes relaunched its latest version earlier this year and an updated version is scheduled for released this summer.”
