Starting with digital versions of guided fishing experiences from top anglers, FishTips has evolved into a comprehensive online resource for anglers. Recognizing the value of timely information and expert instruction, the platform provides current fishing updates and in-depth training videos from seasoned guides.

Calvin Lott, CEO and co-founder of Fishtips, said the most popular destinations on the platform are for lakes known for freshwater bass fishing in the southern region of the United States, including Lake Guntersville, Lake Fork, Sam Rayburn Reservoir, Toledo Bend Reservoir, Lake Lanier, and Lake Hartwell.
Prior to jumping into the founder and CEO seat, Lott worked across Atlanta’s technology landscape. He was an analyst at InterContinental Hotels Group, a Senior Linux Administrator at Manheim, and was Vice President of Engineering at MemberClicks (acquired by Personify).
Lott, alongside fellow co-founder and veteran of Atlanta’s fintech space Adam Bloomston, launched Fishtips in 2023.

“Once we had the right team in place, we wanted to market test the idea as quickly as possible, since an online information marketplace was a totally new concept in the sportfishing industry. We had no way to know if the concept would actually work without building it and operating it,” Lott told Hypepotamus.
The startups quickly found a niche within the sportsfishing industry, as it reported it quadrupled revenue over the course of 2024.
From its Atlanta roots, FishTips is tapping into a passionate community of anglers nationwide. The startup's rapid growth underscores the potential for technology to bridge the gap between expert knowledge and eager enthusiasts, even in offline experiences.
