Odun Odubanjo, a former product lead at the ecommerce giant Shopify, wants to build “practical AI” from his home in Florida.

As the CEO and co-founder of Insight7, that means building technology that isn’t just wrapped up in the “hype” cycle of the AI boom. He sees Insight7 as a B2B play that will help businesses leverage artificial intelligence to grow and scale opportunities.

Today Insight7, which was founded in 2022, is launching its Call Evaluation platform. The platform is designed to help mid-market teams (think in the 10-150 employee range) improve their sales, customer support, QA, HR, and compliance work by analyzing their video and audio calls.

As the team launches its latest platform, we caught up with Odubanjo for a fun and informative Q&A session. His insights on building B2B AI tools can help fellow founders better understand what it takes to build tools that provide actionable insights for tangible business outcomes.

Catch his Q&A here:

Question: How do you explain the concept of "practical AI" to the business community?

Answer: Practical AI is about delivering real-world impact, not just hype. It solves specific business problems in a way that integrates seamlessly into existing workflows. For example, improving manual QA by evaluating calls at scale or coaching teams more effectively. It’s AI that’s usable, measurable, and tied directly to outcomes that matter to the business.

Question: Walk us through how users work with Insight7. Is this a tool they use daily/multiple times a day?

Yes, many teams use Insight7 daily, especially in roles where insights and communication quality is critical. After a call, Insight7 automatically analyzes and evaluates for business and performance insights while surfacing trends across calls. It becomes a part of the team’s daily rhythm, supporting everything from decision-making and performance reviews to onboarding and training.

What sort of performance improvements can users expect from using Insight7?

Teams typically see faster business decision-making, people ramp-up times, clearer coaching conversations, and higher-quality business calls overall. Because performance gaps are identified in real-time, managers can coach proactively, not reactively - leading to better outcomes on sales, customer support, and/or internal meetings. It also frees up time by automating manual evaluation work.

Talk to us about the timeline of building Insight7. When did you first get started working on the technology and when you officially launched?

We started building Insight7 in 2022, initially focused on customer feedback analysis. As we worked closely with teams, we saw a larger opportunity in call intelligence, first with call analytics and later with evaluation at scale. We are officially launching our call evaluation this week and even prior to this formal announcement, we’ve seen really great interest from business executives, managers, coaches, and enablement teams.

Have you taken on any outside capital?

Yes - we raised a reasonable early round of venture capital funding to help accelerate development and go-to-market efforts. We are currently self-sustaining and can fund our R&D to keep innovating on behalf of our customers. It’s allowed us to move quickly and build a product that can scale with enterprise needs, while staying grounded in solving real user problems.

How do you vary from other AI-driven call performance platforms?

Most tools stop at transcription, keyword detection and tracking surface metrics. Insight7 goes much further - automatically scoring calls using real, dynamic evaluation criteria, identifying coaching opportunities, and aggregating insights across teams. It’s built not just for visibility, but for action - so managers can close performance gaps quickly and consistently.

Tell us about the name. What does Insight7 mean?

Insight7 reflects our belief that insights should be democratized and actionable within every business. The “7” symbolizes completeness - like a full spectrum of understanding. We transform raw conversation data into clear intelligence that drives immediate business decisions.

How big is your team right now? Any hiring plans on the horizon?

We’re a lean, focused team of 15, spanning engineering, marketing, growth, and customer success. As we grow, we’re actively hiring - especially in go-to-market and AI research roles - to meet demand and scale according to market demands.

How has it been building this type of startup in Florida?

Florida has been a great base - stellar talent, climate and a growing ecosystem. Being outside of the typical startup hubs has definitely helped us stay focused on building a real business versus chasing trends.
