Profile

I don't know about you, but at 17 I was struggling through AP World History and focused on finding a date (unsuccessfully) to my junior prom. In contrast, 17-year-old Logan Allen is about to take the startup world by storm.

Logan has graduated a year early and will be studying computer science at Georgia Tech in the fall.  His resume is already impressive/massive with multiple app creations, a startup attempt, internships with Michael Tavani of Switchyards & Gather (and more projects than I can list.) Check out his linkedin to see all the cool stuff Logan has done.

This quote from Logan sums him up in a nutshell, "many people have told me to wait to start my career, and that there will be time for that later in life. I'm not willing to let my age be a barrier, and am starting my career as soon as possible, because I want to do as much as possible in my life, build as many things as I can, and hopefully create some products that people love."

Get the inside scoop on Logan below and keep in mind that he's looking to intern with another startup for 10-15 hours a week once he finishes up with Gather.

What skills are in your technical wheelhouse & what would you still like to learn?

  • Front-end development with JavaScript,
  • Proficiency with multiple JavaScript frameworks, including AngularJS, Sencha Touch, and Appcelerator Titanium,
  • Web Design,
  • UI & UX Design, particularly for mobile,
  • I would love to have more opportunities to gain experience with Android development, Node.JS, or Python.

Why are you interested in startups?I'm passionate about startups and the startup community because they're able to move quickly, build great products, and not worry about corporate structure or "how things have always been done." I love the excitement of seeing a business grow, and making real products that people can use and enjoy using.

What projects have you worked on?
I interned for TripLingo as a software developer. While working at TripLingo, I reimagined their translation app through JavaScript and Appcelerator Titanium for use in a medical translation context.

I developed an app that allows doctors to refer patients to other doctors, working as the lead front-end developer on a contract with Fresenius Medical Care, a dialysis company with 55,000 employees.

What are you currently working on?
I’m working as a front-end software engineer at Gather. I’m rewriting their web app in AngularJS and helping to create an automated testing suite using Karma and Protractor.

What is your plan post graduation?
Post-high school: I'm really excited to be living in Atlanta, and am enjoying my summer internship with Gather. I'll be attending Georgia Tech in the fall and majoring in Computer Science.

Post-college: I haven't decided whether to move to California, New York, or stay in Atlanta, but the community here is growing very quickly and a lot of great things are happening here. After college, I plan to work as a developer for an already established company for a few years, then found my own startup.
