Local Self-Taught Techie Launches Online Coding Course
Coder Manual touts that their program can transform anyone into a job-ready programmer in just 12 weeks. By offering a straight-forward, comprehensive course, this online program stands out among the traditional books and tutorials at a fraction of the cost of a college education.
We caught up with ATLien, musician & Coder Manual creator, Rob Dey for the inside scoop
Location: Online Coding School / Company based in Atlanta, GA
Who is running it & what is your tech experience: Rob Dey is the founder and an instructor at Coder Manual. Dey has built web technology for Coca-Cola, Toyota, First Data, Newell-Rubbermaid, Getaround, and Edison Nation. He’s a self-taught programmer with a focus on Ruby on Rails.
Classes offered: Coder Manual currently offers one course called the Job-Ready Web Developer Course. The course covers full-stack web development, front to back, with HTML, CSS, Javascript and Ruby on Rails so that students can be job-ready in 12 weeks or less. No experience required.
Special programs/recurring events: We engage each of our students throughout the course. Upon successful completion of the course, we work with the top students and help them find freelance work, internships, or connect them with recruiters and employers for full or part-time placements.
Brief history: Coder Manual was launched January 2015 and was created because becoming a job-ready web developer is either difficult, disorganized, or expensive. Our focus is to create singular, highly-focused courses that teach job skills quickly over the web. We created the curriculum for the first course based on a complete study plan that works and has led to multiple web development job offers.
How are you different from other coding schools around town? Simply put, Coder Manual offers a comprehensive education on software job skills at a fraction of the cost of a college education or bootcamp. Even if students are enrolled in bootcamps or classes, our curriculum serves as an excellent supplement because of its value and low price. By the end of our course, you’ll have built a portfolio of real apps that will help you get hired. You’ll even learn how to build a startup that can register users and accept payments - you can use this as a minimum viable product for your own business if you’re an entrepreneur.
Quotes from students: I am a pretty average student but looking to improve my skill set. Looking forward to learn something cool and of course your valuable tips are most welcome. I must say good work and the way you address little details is amazing. Thumbs up! - Kamal Cheema I'm really liking your teaching style as it's not too fast and it's very clear and easy to understand. I'm a bit worried about the rails stuff though because this'll be my first foray into real programming. With that said this a really exciting time for me and it's the first time I'm thinking about having a positive future and actually doing something I'll enjoy. - Marcus Handa I'm half way through this course and this guy is so talented and his instruction is brilliant. - Mark Moran I'm a fracker in the oil industry and will be getting laid off soon due to declining oil prices. I couldn't have discovered the program at a better time. I don't plan on working again until I can secure a full-time developer position. I am dedicated to making a career change. - Max Shirazy
