What are you currently working on outside of class?
I am currently working on my startup project EKG365, formerly known as Vitali (Veye-tal-eye), and we are working on developing a wearable heart monitoring device for senior citizens over the age of 65. This device will monitor the heart rate continuously and send alerts to family members and emergency personnel in case of emergency. This device will aid families with early detection and tracking of impending heart defects.
My newest venture is a project called Oasis, a social enterprise aimed toward solving the problem of food deserts which are low income communities where affordable and nutritious food is difficult to obtain. Atlanta is the third largest food desert in the country. To tackle this problem, we are generating a web and mobile application that will deliver groceries to your home. The app will feature alternatives for unhealthy selections, an income based grocery list and recipe help. We plan to form partnerships with healthy food providers such as Trader Joes and Whole Foods to provide subsidies for orders coming from these areas. Long term, we plan to do data analysis in order to make metrics based proposals for grocery store locations in food deserts.
MVP’s for both coming soon!
What tech/tools are essential to you?
My iPhone is my best friend. Its like a third ear. It has all of my accounts, calendars, and most importantly where I stay informed on the latest startup information and tech news, from apps like TechCrunch and Crunchy. HTML5 websites have been super clutch for making my landing page for my MVP.
What are your best technical or creative skills?
I’m good with hardware and building with my hands, and I am also capable of implementing both technical and creative skills with the use of 3D CAD software.
What’s next on your list to learn?
Next I would like to learn some more programming languages. I know MATlab pretty well, but I would like to get better acquainted with Python and learn Java.
Interested in working for a startup, mid-sized company, or a corporate giant?
I’m interested in working for a startup. I’ve done the corporate america thing before and it was nice however, I felt boxed in. I need creative freedom...
