ATL Tech Co Featured on "Small Empires" with Alexis Ohanian
In a recent episode of Small Empires, Alexis Ohanian spent time in Atlanta exploring PartPic, a tech startup that allows a user to take a photo of a broken machine part and find its replacement. The founder of Reddit chose to cover Partpic because they are poised to radically alter the industrial distribution market and have been recognized by TechCrunch for their innovative idea.
For this episode, Alexis joins PartPic during their seed round of funding to ask them about the pros and cons of basing their business in Atlanta. He also meets one of their first customers, Atlanta's own National Builder Supply. In the interview, founders Heath Hyneman and Kevin Wallace explain that National Builder Supply (NBS) recently expanded their inventory to include industrial supplies and well as rough plumbing materials. With this expansion, they saw the need for something like Partpic in order to get the right parts to their consumers.
NBS has the parts and product codes/names that people need in order to replace their broken things, and Partpic has the ability to translate these items into a user friendly database, and help the consumer get what they need. After discussions with Partpic's founder, Jewel Burks, a beautiful partnership between a well established company and a startup was born.
