America's Top Small City to Start a Business | Alpharetta

NerdWallet compared 463 small U.S. cities (50,000 to 100,000 people) to determine where the best opportunities are for folks starting a business. Alpharetta, a northern suburb of Atlanta, took the top spot due to the "huge jump in jobs related to technology."

No surprise there. Here's more to know about the tech scene in Alpharetta:

  • Alpharetta Technology Commission (offices, co-working, events), Greater Alpharetta Technology Network (events), and the Technology Forum (events) are all rapidly expanding 
  • 600+ technology companies are located there
  • Over 15 enterprise & co-location data centers
  • During the late-90s dot-com boom hundreds of miles of fiber optic cables were buried throughout the city, and the state's largest electricity provider, Georgia Power, took it a step further by establishing a series of redundant electric networks throughout the city -60% D/L speeds above U.S. average
