The 10 Billion Question | How AGCO Tech Feeds the World

Since the advent of agriculture, farmers and entrepreneurs have been collaborating and utilizing technology to optimize growth and overcome the whims of Mother Nature. As challenges arise, including the ability to feed 10 billion people globally by 2050 (a 70% increase in global food production), AgTech is seeing a boom with billions invested annually into new solutions.

Leading the charge is AGCO, an Atlanta-based, AgTech powerhouse that is modernizing Georgia’s oldest and largest $72 billion industry and the $6.4 trillion global agriculture industry with its production of smart equipment and robust data solutions.

“We are focused on developing technologies that are integrated into farm machinery and provide farmers and customers the data they need,” said Chris Rhodes, Director of Global Advanced Technology Solutions & Partnerships of AGCO. “We are using technology and services to make the farm more efficient, developing innovative solutions to increase farm yields.”

One of AGCO’s newest technology solutions is AgCommand and its API, which empowers farmers to produce more intelligently and efficiently. The wireless farm equipment management tool enables farmers to connect to resources that monitor their machinery fleet from anywhere and at any time.

“The goal of the AgCommand API is to help farmers make better decisions based on real-time information,” said Rhodes. “Machine data captured during operation can be transferred to different farm management dashboards so that farmers can visualize their machine data along with their other farm data. This allows us to communicate information in the manner they prefer, giving them more choice to maximize production based on their specific needs as a grower.”

AgCommand is also the backbone of AGCO’s innovative Fuse Connected Services, their approach to precision agriculture that is a marriage of machinery, technology and data. Its tools include guidance, telematics and advanced sensors that create smart, connected machines, which can communicate with farm managers, third party service providers, and other machines.

If machines talking to machines and big data translated from the farm to in-depth analytics in real time doesn’t impress you, AGCO’s commitment to its home in Georgia certainly will. Celebrating 25 years of business from its global headquarters in Duluth, the Fortune 500 company is “very proud to call Atlanta home,” said Rhodes.

“It has been really heartening to watch the Atlanta tech scene growing. That kind of innovation is inspiring and we are glad to be part of that scene as a company that uses technology to help feed the world.”
