About Hypepotamus

Fueled by the same entrepreneurial spirit that drives those we cover, Hypepotamus generates awareness about the Southeast’s innovation community. Hypepotamus.com is the go-to source of startup and technology news, interviews, events, job listings, and resources. We showcase the founders, students, innovators, companies, and investors that are proud to call the Southeast home.

Our History

Founded in 2011 by Atlanta-based entrepreneurs, Kevin WallaceHeath Hyneman and Ashish Mistry, Hypepotamus was originally launched to provide an open collaborative space where entrepreneurs and early startups could intersect, work and build their businesses. Hypepotamus transitioned from a physical space into a digital news publication and community platform in 2014.

As the landscape of the region’s startup ecosystem has grown and evolved, so has Hypepotamus, yet our mission of connectivity has stayed the same. We believe the South is a viable place to attract and retain tech and entrepreneurial talent.

Our Code Of Ethics

Hypepotamus is, first and foremost, a community news publication. We are committed to supporting the innovation ecosystem of the southeast above all else. Our priority is to provide a megaphone for information and resources that serve the interest of the community and help it succeed.

We aim to cover disruptive, innovative technology and companies. We strive to be at the forefront of technology and business trends. We only cover stories with a tie to the Southeast region (Georgia, Alabama, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and Louisiana).

We approach all stories with equal fairness and without prior judgment. We reserve the right to turn down stories based on our editorial leadership’s judgement. We strive for accuracy and objectiveness. We respect our sources and subjects.

We will always aim to derive information from the most direct source. If we obtain information from another source (i.e. another publication, study, etc.) we will always directly link to the source.

We strive to be as inclusive as possible. That means being conscious of diversity in the subjects we choose to report on and interview. We aim to reflect the diversity of our audience in our coverage.

We welcome comments and suggestions, but withhold the right to make changes to stories based on anything other than accuracy and clarity. We don’t allow prior review, except in special cases as determined by editorial leadership. We pledge to minimize errors and will issue retractions or make corrections as necessary. We do not remove stories after publication.

We do not accept favors or gifts in exchange for reporting. We do publish sponsored content and it will always be clearly marked as such in a transparent manner in both articles and related collateral (emails and social media). Sponsored content will never be tied to news stories.

We welcome contributor content and will provide the author’s byline to disclose their position. Contributed content reflects the opinion of the author and not necessarily of the editorial team. We also engage in non-monetary event media partnerships and may offer discounts or exclusives to our audience.

Please always feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
